Proclaimers of the Gospel

I'm working through my second seminary class, and we are in the middle of Thessalonians.  I'm learning so much about Paul and his writings - completely changing the way I read his letters!!  As hard and stressful as it can be sometimes, I am thoroughly enjoying getting to read and study the Lord's Word in this way.

This was a quote in  my class notes, and I wanted to share.  It's a beautiful reminder that God doesn't need perfect people - He is glorified by working things in people's lives that they couldn't orchestrate apart from Him.

[A reformed pastor] "knows that the Lord is consecrating to himself the mouth and tongue of a mere man in order to cause to resound thorough the preaching the very voice of the Savior himself.  What our generation needs is not a company of communicators, of clever speakers, of effective orators, of interesting teachers, but a company of proclaimers of the everlasting gospel in all its richness and comprehensiveness."

God doesn't need you to have this beautiful or eloquent way of speaking or articulating the gospel.  He simply needs obedience and a willing, loving heart.  Just like Moses, He is able to demonstrate His power through the Word in a way we cannot do on our own as a 'mere man.'

So don't let fear get in the way. Trust in the Holy Spirit to give you the words to say to communicate the powerful, life-changing message of the gospel to others that the Lord places in your path!
