It Matters
I don't know about you, but these past few weeks have just been a bit hectic. With the holidays fast approaching, it seems as if there isn't a moment to just stop and take a breath and actually enjoy this time of the year.
I had the opportunity to go on my first work trip this week, and it was so much fun! It was a bit hectic and tiring, but I enjoyed every moment of it. The Lord ended up allowing me to have a really, really sweet moment with him on Tuesday morning when I was reading His word, and I just felt the need to share the fact that you matter to the Lord. Not just a part of you, but ALL of you - every single hair on your head, thought in your brain, ache in your body or spirit. It all matters to Him.
It's easy to forget that when we are so busy running around. Our minds are focused on so many other things, and we forget how intimately we are known by our Creator. If you are anything like me, at times you get caught up in how BIG the Lord is and forget that He is all knowing about the most minute, intimate parts of your life. I think to myself all the time that He is just too big to care about some of the things going on in my life, or the things that happened in my life before He opened my eyes.
There are kids starving to death in other countries, fellow brothers and sisters being persecuted and tortured for their faith, people dying and suffering in unimaginable ways. When I think about all of this, I begin to believe the lie that my struggles aren't big enough for the Lord to pay attention to. Why should He care about my own pain when others are going through so much worse?
In Psalm 55, David is writing about oppression and restlessness in his soul. He is facing real heartache and real persecution. He is crying out to the Lord for help and is overwhelmed with fear. I think it is safe to say that we all have had some kind of experience with this overwhelming pain and fear in our own lives. During those times, it is sometimes hard to see where God is in it all. Honestly, it feels like He has abandoned us, or is simply too busy with other things to hear our cry. There have been several times in my past (and very much in my present day) that I just sit and cry out to the Lord for help, for any sign that He is or was there when I didn't feel His presence. It seems like the enemy is winning all around us, and that help will never come.
But David shows us that isn't true. He tells us in verses 16-19 that God hears these calls. He hears our voice and redeems our soul. God, who is enthroned on high, hears my voice. He hears your voice. He hears all of His children who cry out to Him. We matter to our Father.
No matter what lies the enemy is forcing into your mind, we must remember that we matter. Our life and struggles and fears all matter to our Maker.
This is something I struggle with regularly. If I matter so much to Him, why didn't He save me from these things in my past? Where was He when I cried out for an answer, for redemption and safety? Why did I not feel this redemption He promises? Where was the Prince of Peace in the chaos?
In the middle of asking these questions, our Father sends me an incredible, overwhelming sense of comfort and peace throughout my soul. I was reminded that He is always there. In every single moment of pain, in every single heartache, in every single painful memory - He is there. I matter to Him.
When I sat on the floor just sobbing and crying out - it mattered to Him. When my body was shaking and teeth were chattering - it mattered to Him. When someone who I thought loved me spat angry, condemning words at me - it mattered to Him. When I was taken advantage of mentally and physically - it mattered to Him. When my mind closes itself off in fear - it matters to Him.
It mattered to Him then, and it matters to Him now. Whatever pain or trial you are going through now, don't let the enemy make you believe that God doesn't hear you - or that He doesn't care for you. As Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us, we must put on the armor of God so that we can withstand these attacks from Satan. We must look to the Word for truth, and we must remember the gospel message. We must remember that we matter SO much to Him, that He sent His son to die on a cross for us. For me, and for you. He wanted a relationship with you and I so much that He allowed His beloved son to take on all of our sin, all of our shame, all of our guilt, and fear.
When times get hard, when things seem incredibly dark and fearful, I pray that you are reminded of the gospel of peace. I pray that the Spirit reminds you that you are never alone, and never forgotten. The One who created you, who formed you and knows every day that is planned for you - He never leaves your side. Every moment of your life matters to Him, and He doesn't take the sins against us lightly. One day, He will avenge those who have hurt you. He is our Judge, our Defender, and our Protector. He is sovereign over everything, and although you may not understand why you are facing difficulties now, please remember that somehow, someway, God is going to use this for your good, and His glory.
Until then, keep trusting in the only One worthy of your trust. Place your hope and future in His hands, and continue to cry out to Him with all of your soul. He hears you, and He will give you rest and peace for your soul.

Let the water spill from your eyes
Let it wash the wounds of those lies
Oh, let the water spill from your eyes
All that you are, all that you’ll be
Someone put the beat in your heart
So that you’ll see you matter
To the one who spoke and set the sun ablaze
To the one who stopped the storm
And walked the waves
To the one who took the tree so He could say
You matter, I hope you know you matter
You matter, heaven knows you matter
Let it wash the wounds of those lies
Oh, let the water spill from your eyes
All that you are, all that you’ll be
Someone put the beat in your heart
So that you’ll see you matter
To the one who spoke and set the sun ablaze
To the one who stopped the storm
And walked the waves
To the one who took the tree so He could say
You matter, I hope you know you matter
You matter, heaven knows you matter
